Woollahra Historical Note:

Woollahra is located 5 kilometres east of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the Municipality of Woollahra, and it is in the Eastern Suburbs region.

While the Municipality of Woollahra takes its name from the suburb, the administrative centre is located in Double Bay. Woollahra is famous for its village style shopping centre and quiet tree lined residential streets.

Woollahra is an Aboriginal word that means meeting ground, or camp, or sitting down place. It was adopted by Daniel Cooper – speaker of the legislative assembly of New South Wales in 1856 when he laid the foundations of Woollahra House. The name for the suburb was taken from the house.

The suburb is the location for many government consulates including those of Turkey, Poland, Serbia, Russia and Germany.

Neighbouring suburbs include Edgecliff, Paddington, Moore Park, Double Bay, Centennial Park, Bellevue Hill, Bondi and Bondi Junction.
