Greenacre is located 17 kilometres south West of the Sydney central business district it is in the local government area of the Municipality of Strathfield and is a part of the South Western Sydney region.

Once known as East Bankstown. When the first road was carved through the area an acre of land was cleared for cultivation. The contrast between the surrounding area – it is said – led to it being referred to as *the Green Acre*. Greenacre Park Estate became the first subdivision in the area in 1909.

The area’s neighbouring suburbs include Chullora, Yagoona, Bankstown, Strathfield, Mount Lewis, South Strathfield, Belfield, Belmore, Lakemba and Punchbowl.

The suburb is unofficially split into two – the north and the south. The southern area is serviced by outlets and local independent shops along Waterloo Road, with the north being serviced by the Chullora Market Place shopping centre.
