Wahroonga is located 22 kilometres north west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government areas of both Ku-ring-gai Council and the Hornsby Shire. Wahroonga is located in the Upper North Shore area of Sydney.

Wahroonga is an Aboriginal word meaning *our home*.

In the early days of settlement the main activity was to cut down the tall trees that grew here. In 1882 Wahroonga was first settled by former convict and wealthy land owner Thomas Hyndes. Wahroonga was a good area for orchards, and in 1890 after the railway line was opened, it became a popular place for businessmen to build out of town residences with large gardens. During the 1920’s and 1930’s much of this type of development occurred.

There are several small shopping villages in the area such as Wahroonga Shopping Village and Hampden Avenue shopping centre in East Wahroonga. Wahroonga is now home to Redleaf Piccolo, Bonjour Patisserie, Novella Fine Books, Cards & Gifts, Cedarwood Cafe, The Butcher’s Block, Missing Spoon, Sydney Adventist Hospital and many more.
