A geeky historical note on this suburb +

Lidcombe is located 14 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of Auburn Council and is a part of the Western Sydney region.

Lidcombe is located north of Rookwood Cemetery which is the largest cemetery in the Southern Hemisphere; its neighbouring suburbs include Homebush West, Berala, Rookwood, Auburn, Silverwater and Newington.

In 1867 when the necropolis opened, it was known as Haslam’s Creek Cemetery, residents disliked the burial ground named after the suburb so in 1876 the suburb was renamed Rookwood after the title of a novel by William Harrison Ainsworth. Overtime the cemetery became known as Rookwood and again residents were upset in 1913 a new name was suggested to honour the past and present Mayors LIDbury and LarCOMBE. In 1914 Lidcombe came to be, in 1949 it amalgamated with the local Auburn government area.

The two main streets have been named after the early colonial priest John Joseph Terry.
