Maroubra is located 10 kilometres south east of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Randwick and is the Eastern Suburbs region.

Maroubra is the largest suburb in the area governed by Randwick City Council, both in population and size. Maroubra Junction is located in the centre of the suburb.

Pacific Square shopping centre is the main shopping centre in Maroubra. Built on the area once known as Stockland Mall Maroubra the centre has many speciality shops, supermarkets, post office and an outdoor eating area. Stores featured in Pacific Square include Aldi, ANZ Bank, Coles, Jasmine Asia Market, Maroubra Medical Centre and Sushi Junction. South Maroubra Shopping Village is home to many shops including the area’s only Woolworths supermarket. Adjacent to the South Maroubra Shopping Village is South Maroubra Village Green which is a local park featuring a children’s plaground.

The first shopping centre Dudley’s Emporium was built in 1912 and has been recently redeveloped. Many commercial developments can be found along Anzac Parade.

Maroubra is also known for its beach which is patrolled all year round by Randwick City lifeguards. Maroubra Beach features a free outdoor gym, a skate park, free BBQ areas, outdoor showers and a playground. Its beach is popular amongst surfers and casual beach-goers looking for a dip on a hot day.
