Wetherill Park  Historical Note:

Wetherill Park is located 34 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Fairfield and is part of the Greater Western Sydney region.

The original inhabitants of the area were the Cabrogal people a clan of the Gandangara tribe.

Wetherill Park has been named after a businessman who donated 21 acres of his land to the government as a park. The offer was accepted and the park named in his honour.

One hundred years ago there were not enough homes in the area to qualify for a school, so local storekeeper – Samuel Booth – made available a section of his land – free of charge for a school. It was called *Macquarie Park* and opened in 1882 with just 8 students. It was changed to *Boothtown* later that year in honour of Samuel Booth. In 1884 it became Reservoir Public School and changed to Wetherill Park Public School in 1896.
