Warwick Farm Historical Note:
Warwick Farm is located 30 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Liverpool and is part of the south western Sydney region.
The area was once home to many Irish political prisoners transported in 1798 after the Irish rebellion. In 1809 land grants of 40 acres were made to the transportees and for some time the area was called Irish Town. In 1804 John Hawley Stroud – who was the Superintendent of Liverpool Orphans School, received a grant on the present site of Warwick Farm Race Course – he named his property after Warwick in England.
Warwick Farm Racecourse is on the western shore of the Georges River. On the Hume Highway opposite the race course is the Peter Warren Car Yard with a large replica of the Sydney Harbour Bridge out front. Warwick Farm is now home to The William Inglis Hotel, Warwick Farm Public School, Peter Warren Automotive, Powerland Electronics, El Topo Cantina and many more businesses.
