Ruse Historical Note:
Ruse is located 52 kilometres south west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Campbelltown.
Ruse has been named after Australia’s first farmer James Ruse. Prior to the 1960’s the area was originally part of Kentlyn and was mostly farm and bushland. When the land was declared open for development it was turned into a residential housing estate. When the suburb was being built it was officially named and proclaimed Ruse. Other names had been thrown about for consideration, including Marlow and Fisher, however the Mayor of the day declined the names.
In the late 1960’s Ruse Village Shopping Centre and Ruse Primary School opened, along the main street of Ruse – Junction Road. The school is most notable for its hexagonal buildings. Worrell Park hosts rugby league matches including lower grade teams from the Western Suburbs Magpies
