Rosehill Historical Note:
Rosehill is located 23 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Parramatta and is part of the Greater Western Sydney region.
In the early days of settlement the hill behind Government house had been named by Governor Arthur Phillip – *Rose Hill*. In 1883 850 acres of Elizabeth Farm – owned by John Macarthur was subdivided for industrial use. Part of the estate was set aside for a recreational area – it later became Rosehill Racecourse.
In 1886 a public school was opened and in 1888 the railway station was opened on the Carlingford Line. It had been a private railway line until 1904 when it was taken over by the state government.
The Rosehill of today is a mix of industrial, commercial, residential and recreational land. It is surrounded by the suburbs of Parramatta, Harris Park, Granville, Camellia, Rydalmere, Silverwater and Auburn
