Revesby HIstorical Note:
Revesby is located 22 kilometres south west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Bankstown and is a part of the South Western Sydney region.
In 1913 Revesby was named in honour of botanist Sir Joseph Banks. Banks had inherited his father’s estate – Revesby Abbey in Lincolnshire, England, so he was known as the Squire of Revesby. Sir Joseph Banks High School has also been named in his honour.
In 1896 the first school in the area opened as Bankstown South, today it is known as Revesby Public School. In 1931 the railway station opened and in 1955 the post office opened.
Revesby is a predominantly residential suburb, which was developed as part of Sydney post war urban sprawl.
The Revesby Shopping Village includes Coles, Sushiru, Endeavour Mutual Bank, twotwo//onetwo and many other stores.
