North Willoughby Historical Note:

North Willoughby is located 9 kilometres north of the Sydney central business district; it is part of the local area government of the City of Willoughby.  It is on the lower north shore area of Sydney, Willoughby and Willoughby East are separate suburbs.

There is a small group of cafes and shops located on Penshurst Street which includes the landmark building the Willoughby Hotel. The hotel was established in 1899 and was described as *one of the finest buildings in the Northern Suburbs*. In 1940 it was almost demolished, but was saved, it underwent a major restoration in 1988.

Another landmark building – a two storey home built in the 1880’s – Roswell, was built for the Forsyth family who ran tanneries in the area. The home was built in Georgian Style and made of sandstone.
