Mount Pritchard Historical Note:

Mount Pritchard is located 34 kilometres south west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Fairfield and is a part of the South Western Sydney region.

Originally home to the Cabrogal aboriginal people who lived in the Fairfield area.

The land was granted to ex convicts for farming during the early 19th century. When the area was later subdivided into smaller lots by a real estate agent named Pritchard it took on the name Mount Pritchard. In the 1930’s during the years of the great depression it was home to homeless people who built shacks on the vacant land, it was nicknamed Mount Misery.

There are two schools in the area – Mount Pritchard East Public School and Mount Pritchard Public School. There is also a school for students with severe intellectual and multiple disabilities called the Les Powell School
