Gordon Historical Note:
Gordon is located 15 kilometres North West of the Sydney central business district it is the administrative centre for the local government area of Ku-ring-gai Council. It is located on the upper North Shore region
It is thought that Gordon was named in honour of Sir James Willoughby Gordon by General Sir Thomas Mitchell. He had served with Gordon in the Peninsular War and was also the quartermaster-general in England when the first fleet sailed into Botany Bay. The suburb of Willoughby was also named in his honour.
Now used as a library Gordon Public School was constructed in 1878 on the Pacific Highway and had been designed by George Mansfield. A second block was added to the school in 1912 and the school buildings are one of the few buildings still standing that date back to the pioneering days of North Sydney. Gordon Railway station was built in 1888 and is as an example of an historical Edwardian building
