Eastwood is located 17 kilometres north west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Ryde and the City of Parramatta and is part of the Northern Suburbs region

Originally it was thought the area was inhabited by the Wallumedegal Aboriginal tribe who lived in the areas between the Parramatta and Lane Cove Rivers. Shortly after the arrival of the first fleet in 1788 the area was settled with many land grants given to marines and NSW corps – it was named *Eastwood* by early Irish free settler William Rutledge.

Eastwood is now a large urban centre in the north of Sydney with a large shopping centre. Eastwood Shopping Centre features a number of different stores including Maldini’s Espresso, The Sushi Heaven, Panda Garden Chinese Take Away, Holmans Betta Home Living, MyHealth Medical Centre, Chemsave Chemist and many more. Eastwood is located at the edge of the Hornsby Plateau with neighbouring suburbs of Dundas Valley, Denistone, Epping and Marsfield. Eastwood is where the first Granny Smith apple was grown.
