Bonnet Bay is a suburb in southern Sydney located 29 kilometers south of the central business district in the local government area of the Sutherland Shire. It shares its 2226 postcode with neighbouring suburbs Como and Jannali. Bonnet Bay is located on the eastern bank of the Woronora River –which flows into the Georges River.

Kirkby was the name originally proposed for the area, however a cave in the area was known as *The Bonnet* due to it being shaped like a woman’s bonnet. So this was adopted for the bay and in 1969 The Geographical Names board decided to name the area Bonnet Bay

Most of the streets in this suburb have been named after American presidents with Washington Drive snaking its way along the length of Bonnet Bay

A mostly residential suburb with a small shopping center – Bonnet Bay Shopping Village which is located in Kennedy Crescent
