Blackett Historical Note:
Blackett is Part of the Greater Western Sydney region and is located 48 kilometers west of the central business district. It falls under the local government area of the City of Blacktown
Blackett is named after the superintendant of the Government Cattle Station at Rooty Hills 1820-1830– George Forster Blackett.
The area is primarily a residential suburb with very little commercial activity. It has a small shopping complex containing a general store, bakery, take away, butcher, combined service station/general store. It is quite close to the suburbs of St Mary’s and Mount Druitt which has more commercial areas such as bigger shopping centers, a railway station and banks. Other nearby areas with shopping centers (but no rail access) is Plumpton and Emerton
The Blackett Primary School was founded in 1971. Public housing from the 1960s and 1970s dominate the area, with many free standing fibro houses and terrace style complexes.
