Is a suburb falling under the local government area of the City of Bankstown and is part of the South Western Sydney region. Located 22 kilometers south west of the Sydney central business district. It shares its 2143 postcode with neighbouring suburbs Potts Hill and Regents Park.
Around 1927 the suburbs name – Birrong meaning *star* – an aboriginal word was adopted. Joseph Hyde Potts was one of the first settlers he was granted land in the area in 1835 and Potts Hill has been named after him.
Birrong has a large number of community facilities including a swimming pool, natural park reserve, bowling club, six football fields, tennis courts, and two high schools – Birrong Boys High School and Birrong Girls High School as well as a primary school.
