Belfield is located 14 kilometres south west of the Sydney central business district and is a suburb in south western Sydney. It is within the local government area of the City of Canterbury and partly inside the Municipality of Strathfield.

With a mixture of commercial, light industrial and residential areas, there is a small shopping strip along Burwood Road. To the north of the suburb, forming a natural border is the Cooks River.

The name Belfield is believed to have come from combining the names of 2 neighbouring suburbs Belmore and Enfield, The name Belfield first appeared on the Postmaster Generals records in 1930.

The majority of homes in the area were built after WW2 as public housing and in the last 50 years have been turned over to private ownership.  Australia’s very first Pizza Hut was opened in Belfield in 1970 and closed in 1990
