Ferntree Gully is a suburb of Melbourne located 30 km east from the central district of the city. The area it’s under the local government of the city of Knox. According to the 2016 census the suburb had a population of 26,428 inhabitants. Belgrave and this suburb are sisters and liked by many.

The Wurundjeri Aboriginal occupied the territory in its early story. After the European settlement, abundance of tree ferns started to attract visitor from 1870’s. The first post office opened in 1873 but closed in 1997. The town located in the area started to grow during the 1880s decade. Shop, hotels and restaurant was built in order to hosts visitors and local inhabitants. Schools and places of worship followed this expansion.

Nowadays, few buildings remained from this period on the corner of Selman Avenue. Community health services used the old shires office as a house. Also, The Knox Historical Society museum was built in 1890s. You can find numerous schools and worships places but some sports playgrounds as well in the suburb. Above all, Ferntree Gully hosts the CFA Fire Brigade since 1942.

Natural reserves and park covered the main part of this area. Sherbrooke forest surrounded the suburb and you can find lot of gum trees and fern trees in the area. If you’re not afraid of hard trail you can follow the lovely tracks to the “1000 steps” way. This trail is known under the name of the “Kokoda Trail” and considered as a memorial path.
