Brunswick is an inner-city suburb of Melbourne located 4 km north from the central district of the city. The area it’s under the local government of the City of Moreland. According to the 2016 census the suburb had a population of 24,473 inhabitants.

At the begging the Wurundjeri people occupied the lands, they hunted and inhabited in. The European settlement of 1830 brought the construction of many properties and farming area. Later, the Sydney auction attracted new speculators. Thomas Wilkinson bought some lands with one of his friends who sold it few years after. Wilkinson built his house in 1846 and name it Brunswick in reference to the duchesse of Brunswick, wife of King Georges IV in England. The name of the suburb followed him. Wilkinson is now considered as the father of the town.

Brunswick was a good rest place for the travellers in search of gold during years of 1850s. A small village with a post office opened in 1854 to satisfy the needs of these gold searches. Quarries of clay and bluestone became important for the local economy and the suburb knew a large expansion before the WWI. In early decades of the 20^th century textile industry grew in the suburb in the same time as the population. After the WWII lot of European migrants (Italian, Greek and Malt) settled in Brunswick. In the same time, they re-built many olds building and the city knew a residential expansion.

Nowadays Brunswick is known for its bohemian culture and strong art and live music scene. Lot of facilities are located in: schools, public open space or place of worship.
