Lalor historical note

Lalor is a  suburb of Melbourne located 18 km north from the central district of the city. The area it’s under the local government of the City of Whittlesea. According to the 2016 census the suburb had a population of 22,594 inhabitants.

The suburb refers to Peter Lalor, a famous figure of the Eureka Stockade. Leo Purcell invented low-cost home during a stay in the hospital. In 1947 it became to be known as “Peter Lalor Co-operative Family Scheme”. The committee of the Victorian Labor Party sponsored the plan and low-cost houses were built in the east. Furthermore, each year, the suburb held The Whittlesea Community Festival.
