Templestowe historical note

Templestowe is a suburb of Melbourne located 16 km north-east from the central district of the city. The area it’s under the local government of City of Manningham. According to the 2016 census the suburb had a population of 16,618 inhabitants.

The first post office opened on 1 July 1860.

The climate corresponds to the same climate recorded in Melbourne. However some variation has been recorded in the hills.

The Wurundjeri people was the traditional owners of the land for 40,000 years. But during the middle of 1830s the Europeans settlement began. In 1838 the new settlers etablished a substantial monetary trade with the Aboriginals. Furthermore in the 1850s, a “permissive occupancy” granted the Aboriginals near Healesville. By dint of this permissive, the Aboriginals reached a substainable degree of economic independence.

The name Templestowe has the same origins that the word “unknown”. Although the book “ivanhoe” by Sir Walter Scott mentionned this name.

Templestowe it’s home to five state schools and two catholic schools who provide primary education. And a college for secondary education (Templestowe College).

The Templestowe Dockers are competing in the Eastern Football League
