Highett historical note

Highett is a  suburb of Melbourne located 16 km south-east from the CBD. Also, the area it’s under the local government of the cities of Bayside and Kingston. Then, according to the 2016 census the suburb had a population of 10,454 inhabitants.

William Highett, a local owner and member of the parliament named the suburb after him. The first post office opened in 1924. The Highett hall opened in 1926 and was a place to dances and vaudeville performance. Unfortunately,  it wasn’t rentable at all. City Council purchased the building and replace it with a library in 1969.

In 1939 the Aircraft Corporation (CAC) used factories in the suburb to craft wings and fuselages. Then, Factories was closed after the WWII. Recently, in 2011 municipality invested money to renew the suburb.

Highett is a home to several sports clubs including cricket, swimming and football clubs.
