Point Cook is a  suburb of Melbourne located 22 km south-west from the central district of the city. According to the 2018 census the suburb had a population of 60,105 inhabitants.

John M. Cooke inspired the name of the suburb which contained an “e” at the end until the early 2000s. A six room huge weatherboard cottage were built in 1852 in the suburb. In the early 1850s foxes and deer were released in the area in order to satisfy the Chirnside brothers’ deep interest in hunting. They funded the Melbourne Hunt club in 1859. They also built a large property capable to hosts few horses. Finally, the Chirnsides family became very influent for Point Cook. The brothers constructed a mansion in Werribee Park.

Federal government purchased a large section of the suburb in 1912 in order to establish the Australian Flying Corps. Finally, the forces were renamed Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) after their success during the WWI. Above all, the RAAF used the lands to built many related buildings such as a museum and the RAAF college. The first post office opened in 1926 and named Point Cook R.A.A.F. Post Office in 1940.

The last two years, the suburb knew a huge population expansion. In 2016 the census reported 49,929 inhabitants and its now more than 60,000. Nowadays many facilities are located in the area including schools, transports, shops and sports clubs. But the suburb remains to be known as the place for the RAAF forces.
