Carnegie historical note

Carnegie is a  suburb of Melbourne located 12 km south-east from the central district of the city. The area it’s under the local government of the City of Glen Eira. According to the 2016 census the suburb had a population of 17,388 inhabitants.

Fisrt, you have to now that the suburb name was originally “Rosstown” in reference to William Murray Ross, one of the first settlers in Carnegie lands. In 1909 the name changed in order to raise some funds for the construction of one library dedicate to the philanthropist Andrew Carnegie.

A strip of restaurant and cafes lining Koornang Road from Dandenong Road to Neerim Road. This road is called “eat street”. Back on the decade 1930s the Carnegie theatre was a popular cinema around Melbourne.
