Blackburn is a residential suburb of Melbourne located 16 km east from the CBD of the city. The area it’s under the local government of the City of Whitehorse. According to the 2016 census the suburb had a population of 13,940.

The origin of the suburb’s name might come from one of the first settler: James Blackburn. The first European people settle the lands around 1841. At first, apple orchards and small forests covered the lands. The first post office opened in 1876 and the first railway station built in 1889. Many brickworks and quarries were established in this zone during the land boom of 1880s. Further, during this decade a large active part of the suburb was build around the Blackburn artificial lake. But the bigger residential boom happened just after the WWII.

If you search some quiet walk you will find many small parks inside Blackburn zone. For example, the Blackburn Lake Sanctuary which follow Gardiners Creeks is very peaceful and relaxing.
