How To Add Disk Cleanup to the Right-Click Menu for a Drive

Hello lovely people ūüôā

In this entry of our computer repairs blog we will discuss how to access the Disk Cleanup Tool. Normally, this can be found  through the Start menu or by opening up the drive properties window. However, if that is too much of a long winded process for you (and I understand, try doing it a few times a day), instead of going through all that you can use a very simple registry hack which will add a menu item to the drive right click menu.

After you have it installed the hack (see link provided at the end of this blog) simply right-click on a drive and choose ‚ÄúDisk Cleanup‚ÄĚ from the menu:

If you are using Vista or Windows 7, you will be asked whether you want to clean up your file or all your filesHow To Add Disk Cleanup to the Right-Click Menu for a Drive 2

And then disk cleanup will begin:

Manual Registry Hack

Through the start menu search or run box open up regedit, and then browse down to the following key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTDriveshell

You can now create a new key called *diskcleanup* and set the default value to *Disk Cleanup*. Now create another key underneath it called*command* and set the value to the following:

cleanmgr.exe /d %1

The change should be immediate, just right-click on the drive and you should see the new menu item.
