Yarrawarrah Historical Note:

Yarrawarrah is located 32 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the Sutherland Shire. Yarrawarrah shares its 2233 postcode with neighbouring Engadine.

Yarrawarrah is an Aboriginal word that means *Mountain Ash*. In 1971 the suburb was officially recognised by the Geographical Names Board.

There is a small shopping centre in Yarrawarrah and a landmark windmill. The Windmill has gained popularity in recent years and now boasts its own Facebook page. Located behind the shopping centre on Old Bush Road is the Yarrawarrah Public School.

There were plans to build a railway station at Yarrawarrah, but it never went ahead. The closest railways stations are located at Loftus and Engadine.

Streets in Yarrawarrah have been named after places in Western Australia and South Australia such as Nullarbor Place, Exmouth Place, Gibson Street, Carnarvon Street, Wittenoom Place and Roebourne Street.
