Woodbine is located 55 kilometres south west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Campbelltown and is part of the Macarthur region. Woodbine and Campbelltown share the same 2560 postcode.

The name Woodbine comes from a local cottage owned by the Payten family from the 1870’s to the 1960’s.

The area was once home to the Tharawal people. A local park Kanbyugal Reserve has been named after a Tharawal leader who met with explorer George Caley in the area in the early 19^th century.

During the early 19^th century settlers began moving into the area establishing orchards and farms in the area. Sydney was expanding during the 1970’s so developers started looking at land around Campbelltown. Developers such as Landcom began building and in 1976 the first residents of the new area started moving in.

Neighbouring suburbs include Claymore, Blairmount, Blair Athol, Eagle Vale, Leumeah and Campbelltown.
