A geeky historical note on this suburb +

Wolli Creek is located 10 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Rockdale and is part of the St George area. Wolli Creek sits beside the Cooks River and Wolli Creek waterways, and, is situated between the suburbs of Tempe and Arncliffe.

Wolli Creek the suburb has been named after the waterway – Wolli Creek on its northern border.

The suburb had been a part of Arncliffe.

In 1826 Alexander Brodie Spark purchased land here building his mansion – Tempe House – named after *Vale of Tempe* a valley in an ancient Greek legend. Philanthropist Caroline Chisholm leased Tempe House as a boarding school for women 1863-1865 the estate was called Greenbank during that time. In 1884 it was sold to the Sister of the Good Samaritan for use as a refuge for women.

The area was predominantly industrial until the late 1990’s.In 2002 Wolli Creek officially became a suburb.
