A geeky historical note on this suburb +

Werrington Downs is located 52 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Penrith, and is part of the Greater Western Sydney region.

The area was once home to the Gomerrigal-Tongarra Aboriginal people who spoke the Darug language. In 1806 Mary King was the first to receive a land grant in the area, but she didn’t take possession of the property till 1827 after her marriage to Robert Lethbridge. They built a house they named Werrington and until 1865 when Robert died they farmed the lands surrounding their estate. The house is still standing.

Residential building in the area didn’t begin until the 1970’s when Landcom began building houses in the area. In 1976 the suburbs name was gazetted.

The suburb has a preschool and neighbourhood centre, and is well known for its wide reserve areas which allows for many recreational activities.
