Wallacia is located 68 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government areas of both the City of Penrith and the Wollondilly Shire. It is a part of the Greater Western Sydney region.

The area was once known as Riverview, but became known as Wallace after cattle grazier Robert Wallace. His house became the unofficial post office in 1885 and by 1897 when the local school was built it was called Wallace School. When in 1905 an official post office was built the G.P.O. named it Boondah as Wallace was another township in N.S.W. It was suggested instead the area be called Wallacia – the name was officially approved in 1906.

During the 19^th century Wallacia was a grazing and dairy area. It was once home to Bullen’s Animal World a theme park and circus that ran for a few decades. There are now many hobby farms as people take a break from city life.

Wallacia is now home to Wallacia Country Club, Wallacia Hotel, Elders Real Estate, Shock Treatment motorcycle repairs, Wallacia Public School and Wallacia Caravan Park.
