Rydalmere Historical Note:
Rydalmere is located 21 kilometres north west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Parramatta.
Rydalmere was named by land speculator Thomas O’Neill when he subdivided Hannibal Macarthur’s old vineyard estate in 1866. *Rydal* comes from Rydal in Cumbria in the Lakes District of England – where Thomas was born. The *Mere*, means lake. The earliest grant in the area was given in 1791 to Phillip Schaeffer.
