Rose Bay Historical Note:
Rose Bay is located 7 kilometres east of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government areas of both Waverly Municipal Council and Woollahra Council and is an eastern Suburb of Sydney.
Rose Bay has views of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House.
Rose bay was named after The Right Honourable George Rose who was joint Secretary to the British Treasury with Thomas Steele. The name Rose Bay was used as early as 1788.
Rose Bay was actually Sydney’s first International Airport with seaplanes landing in Sydney Harbour on Rose Bay as early as 1938. In 1945 nine Catalina flying boats landed and moored at Rose Bay Wharf, repatriating Australian POW’s from Japanese camps. There is a nearby restaurant called Catalina. Other places to dine include Regatta, Blue Monkey Thai, 1 Best Thai, Tuposto and Pita Mix.
