Pymble Historical Note:
Pymble is located 16 kilometres north west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of Ku-ring-gai Council and is in the Upper North Shore region of Sydney.
West Pymble is a separate suburb which is surrounded by the Lane Cove National Park. Pymble is a residential suburb with tree lined streets and gardens.
Pymble has been named after an influential early settler by the name of Robert Pymble. The area remained an agricultural area for some time before residential settlement started to take place.
Local builder Richard Porter built the first bank in the area the Australian Joint Stock Bank. It was a two storey building made of sandstone and is now a private home called Grandview.
The Suakin Depot of the Australian Army is based in Pymble, it houses the 7th field regiment and A company (Artillery and Infantry) of the 2/17 RNSWR.
