Pennant Hills is located 25 kilometres north west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the Hornsby Shire. Pennant Hills is considered to be both a part of the Northern Suburbs region and the Hills Distinct.

The area was first explored in 1788 by Governor Arthur Phillips. The first white settlement began with the establishment of convict timber camps during the time of Governor Lachlan Macquarie. In 1840 permanent settlement began in the area, but it wasn’t till the arrival of the railway line in the 1880’s that the suburb started to grow. In the 1950’s the area experienced another surge as the motor car became commonplace.

Pennant Hills is one of the major commercial areas within the Hornsby Shire. There are several dozen shops located at the North West end of the railway line, along with the library. There are modern apartments, office towers, commercial and industrial areas along Pennant Hills Road.
