North Strathfield Historical Note:
North Strathfield is located 15 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Canada Bay. Strathfield South and Strathfield are separate suburbs to the south.
One of the large homes in this area was named Strathfield, and it is believed the area was named after this house. One landmark still standing was built in 1861 by John Bibb for Henry David Bray – named Ardill House in Davidson Avenue. It is now our Children’s Home and was enlarged in 1880.
The area was one of industrial developments, but in recent years many industrial sites have been turning into residential developments. There is a small group of shops opposite North Strathfield railway station. The site of the old Arnotts Biscuits factory has been redeveloped as the Bakehouse Quarter and is home to restaurants, cafes, office space, supermarkets and shops. Businesses in Bakehouse Quarter include Aldi, Holey Moley, Bakehouse Garden, Cookies Lounge Bar, Number 5 Cafe , Yuzu Dining and many more.
