Minto Heights Historical Note:
Minto Heights is located 50 kilometres south west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Campbelltown and is part of the Macarthur region.
Named in honour of Gilbert Elliot-Murray-Kynynmound the Earl of Minto, he was the Viceroy of India from 1807-1814. The name had been given to the whole area – stretching from Appin to what is now known as Denham Court.
The area was once home to the Tharawal People.
In the late 19th century the bushland was cleared to make way for orchards and other small farms. The area managed to escape major subdivision during the 1970’s population boom in the Campbelltown area. It was zoned as a *scenic protection area* with a minimum land size of 5 acres, and was known as East Minto.
Campbelltown Council proposed changing the name to Warby which the locals rejected. In 1976 Minto Heights was chosen
