Lansvale is located 28 kilometres south west of the Sydney central business district and is part of the local government area of the City of Fairfield. It is part of the South Western Sydney region.

Lansvale has taken its name from neighbouring suburbs Lansdowne and Canley Vale. In the early 20^th century Lansvale was a popular recreational area with the Butterfly Park, Latty’s Pleasure Grounds, Lansdowne Reserve and Hollywood Park all popular venues along the river and lakes. Sadly by the time of the Great Depression amusement parks were struggling and eventually the land they occupied was reclaimed by local council for public reserves.

A little known fact is that the very first games of Rugby League Football took place in 1908 were trial games held at Latty’s Pleasure Grounds. This was long before the official games took place at venues closer to the city, and well before professional rugby league teams came to the further western areas of Sydney.
