Hobartville is located 64 kilometres from the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Hawkesbury. Hobartville is a suburb of Richmond which in 2001 had a population of 2,717.
Hobartville was originally a horse stud before it was divided up in the 1960’s with the first new home being built there in 1969. In its hey-day the Hobartville horse stud was successful breeder of champion horses. As well as breeding thoroughbred horses the owners of the stud farm imported horses, this improved the quality of the Australian Bred horse stock. Special trains from Sydney ran for buyers to get to the yearly sales. Over 700 horses were sold from Hobartville.
In 1971 the Hobartville Public School was opened and in 1978 the Hobartville Shopping Centre opened its doors with such stores as Hobartville Pizza and Alison’s Family Pies, the shopping centre is located across the road from the sports ground – Tamplin Field
