Georges Hall was named after Captain George Johnson’s house and farm called *Georges Hall*. In 1809 it was used as the administrative centre to conduct the census.

Nearby parkland – Garrison Point – was named after the Garrison of soldiers who were stationed here to ensure Captain George Johnson’s safety as he conducted the census. This area is now a local focus of Australia Day activities. Garrison Point is located near the junction of Prospect Creek and the Georges River and is near an artificial lake – Lake Gillawarna that is an important breeding ground for native birds.

Its neighbouring suburbs include Lansdowne, Bass Hill, Yagoona, Lansvale, Bankstown, Condell Park and the Georges River.
