Emerton Historical Note:
Emerton is located 46 kilometres from the Sydney central business district; it is under the local area government of the City of Blacktown and is part of the Greater Western Sydney region
Emerton was named after William Frederick Emert who had arrived in Australia in 1853, from his homeland of Siglingen Germany. In 1861 he became both a store keeper and post master in Mount Druitt. Emert also played a leading role in forming the Wesleyan Church in Australia.
Emerton is predominantly a residential suburb with very little commercial activity, mostly centred on the Emerton Leisure Centre. There are several retail developments including *Emerton Village* which has a post office, supermarket, service station, take away food, medical centre and a hotel.
In the 1960’s and 1970’s the area was heavily dominated by public housing, but gradually homes have been transferring over into private ownership and being replaced with new modern houses.
