Edgecliff Historical Note:

Edgecliff is located 4 kilometres east of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the Municipality of Woollahra and is part of the Eastern Suburbs region

Edge cliff gets its name from the fact it basically sits on the edge of a cliff. This rocky cliff was extensively quarried in the early days of the colony. The area itself was dominated for a while by the Glenrock property on the north side of New South Head road.

In 1894 a cable tram service started operation running from King Street in the city to Ocean Street in Edgecliff. The powerhouse that drove the tram was located in Rushcutters bay.  In 1905 the tram line was electrified and it wasn’t till 1979 when Edgecliff got its own railway station when the Illawarra line was extended form Town Hall to Bondi Junction. Edgecliff is surrounded by the suburbs of Paddington, Woollahra, Darling Point and Double Bay
