Eastlakes Historical Note:
Eastlakes is located 8 kilometres south east of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Botany Bay and is part of the Eastern Suburbs region
Eastlakes obtained its name from the extensive lake system on its south east and the fact it is located within the Eastern Suburbs region. The area was once known as Botany Swamps and was Sydney’s third source of water in 1859.They use to pump the water from here into a reservoir in Paddington.
Part of the suburb is on the former site of the Roseberry Racecourse which was redeveloped into a commercial and residential area in the 1960’s. The lakes were partly reclaimed from the swap to create the Sydney Airport extensions and to create the Lakes Golf Course.
Eastlakes is mostly a residential suburb with a shopping centre, public primary school, and three churches
