Breakfast Point Historical Note:

Breakfast Point is located 16 kilometers west of the Sydney central business district; it is within the local government area of Canada Bay and is a part of the inner west area.

According to records the suburbs name came from the first contact made between the traditional owners of the land the Wangal Clan and the English settlers. While exploring the Parramatta River Captain John Hunter was having breakfast when 7 from the clan in 2 canoes came over to them.

In 1883 the Australian Gaslight Company began developing the area with *Mortlake Gas Works* occupying most of the area. The site offered river access for colliers to bring in coal and unlimited space for expansion. The gas work remained until the 1990’s and the Mortlake redevelopment started to take place.

There is a small town center with an IGA supermarket, restaurants, hairdresser, clothes shop, dentist and optometrist.
