Bossley Park is in the greater Western Sydney area and is under the local government area of the City of Fairfield. It is located 36 kilometers west of the Sydney central business district.

Named after an English Chemist – John Brown Bossley (1810-1872) who purchased a large block of land on Smithfield Road. He named his property after a village in Derbyshire England – Edensor. When the area north of Edensor was subdivided in 1890 it became known as Bossley Park. In 1890 the Public School was erected, followed by a post office in 1895. Following WW2 the area received a large influx of Italian immigrants who have since played a large part in shaping the community.

There are now a number of government schools in the area including Bossley Park Public School, Bossley Park High School, Prairieville Public School and the Catholic run Mary Immaculate Primary School.
