Barden Ridge is a southern Sydney suburb, 31 kilometers south west of the Sydney central business district. Colloquially known to locals as *The Ridge* it comes under the local government area of the Sutherland Shire

Located on the Woronora River which flows north into the George’s River *The Needles* is a body of water (a fjord) on the Woronora river along one of the original roads west from Helensburgh. On the north side of *the Needles* is the fresh water source of the Woronora river, while on the other side it’s salt water. The whole area is popular for picnicking, hiking and mountain biking.
