Deer Park is a suburb of Melbourne located 17 km west from the central district of the city. The area it’s under the local government of the City of Brimbank. According to the 2016 census the suburb had a population of 18,126 inhabitants.
The first name of the area was “Kororoit Creek”. The Melbourne Hunt Club renamed the suburb later in 1889and use it for their stock of game deer. They built the house’s club on Ballarat Road and opened in 1885. The first office opened few years later in 1878. Deer Park was chosen to be the place of the first explosive factory in Victoria. It was good place because it was isolated and far from Melbourne’s outskirts.
After a fatal accident in 1923 the Black powder production was forced to close, and the Imperial Chemical Industries took the control of this place. The residential expansion of the suburb started in 1930s during the depression period. Nowadays you can find lot of schools in the are including primary and secondary levels.
The Kororoit Creek is a good place to observe a large variety of reptile’s species, including Tiger snakes or Eastern Blue-tongued Lizard. You can also observe lot of frogs in near to the lakes of this aera. Unfortunately, due to the urban development these species began rare in the aera. But, if you love hiking, the Kororoit Creek Trail still a good path to see flora and fauna.
