Clayton South historical note

Clayton South is a  suburb of Melbourne located 20 km south-east from the central district of the city. The area it’s under the local government of the City of Kingston. According to the 2016 census the suburb had a population of 12,642 inhabitants. Even if the railway station name’s is Westall, all post addressed in the suburb are addressed to Clayton South.

After the 1800s settlement, the Clayton South lands used for farming and market gardening. Despite the swamps in the suburb a golf course was built in 1948. Is one of several in the “sand belt country”.

Residential zones developed during the post WWII period in 1950s. The first post office opened just un 1960 and closed in 1971.
