Carrum Downs historical note

Carrum Downs is a  suburb of Melbourne located 36 km south-east from the central district of the city. The area it’s under the local government of the City of Franckston. According to the 2016 census the suburb had a population of 20,711 inhabitants.

Before the European settlement the aboriginal’s clans used the territory to take some rest along the bay. The area was called “Karrum Karrum’ which means “boomerang”. The Carrum swamp, which measure around 15 km, protected the lands from the European settlement for a while. After the WWI the village of Carrum was rebuild in order to set a new one for aged persons.

There are many noticeable places in the area. For example, you can find a large variety of facilities (health, shops …).
